What is Condyline?

Condyline is an alcoholic solution used for the treatment of genital warts. Its active ingredient called podophyllotoxin is a non-alkaloid toxin lignan that is extracted from the roots of plants and discovered to have a variety of medical applications.

Condyline is formulated for topical use only and applied as directed by a physician. A patient may treat himself as long as he follows the correct instruction for the application. A healthcare provider may also administer the drug to a patient. Either way, make sure to give extra care to avoid contact with the eye, tongue, or any mucosal tissue of the genital area including vagina, cervix, anus, or perianus.

How Does Condyline Works?

Podophyllotoxin is an anti-mitotic agent that destabilizes microtubules and stops the cellular division. It works by penetrating the wart tissue and avoiding the cells from dividing and spreading.

Once applied into the wart, podophyllotoxin is absorbed through the skin or mucous membranes which destroys the tissues leading the cell to die. The extent of absorption depends on the concentration used. This absorption can lead to systematic circulation commonly resulting in nausea, vomiting, and thrombocytopenia, or low platelet count.

Who Can and Can’t use the Condyline?

Condyline is typically recommended for adults. However, if the patient is allergic to podophyllotoxin, take necessary precautions and warnings. Some of the symptoms of allergy include difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or other parts of the body, itching, and appearance of rash and hives

Condyline isn’t for children’s use, since safety and effectiveness for that specific age bracket have not been established. Pregnant women or breastfeeding moms should refrain application of this medicine to avoid contracting any complications to the baby.

The patient must consult a doctor or a pharmacist before you start on the medication to make sure that patient will get the proper treatment.

What are the Benefits of Condyline?

Codyline restores a healthy and normal sex life of a person by stopping the root of genital warts that causes pain, itching and discomfort to a patient. Since wart is infectious, Codyline also stops its spread if treated properly.

How do I use Condyline?

If you will administer the Condyline by yourself, apply it directly to the affected area. Use a cotton-tipped applicator that goes in the medicine box.  Dip it to the Condyline solution and apply it to the skin where it needs treatment.  Apply the minimum amount of the Condyline solution enough to cover the wart. The amount of treatment solution should be limited to less than 10 cm2 of wart tissue and no more than 0.5 mL of the solution per day.  The patient may use a hand mirror to help him apply the solution in the right area.

Apply twice daily, morning and evening, with an interval of 12 hours, for 3 consecutive days followed by four days without treatment. The use of Condyline twice daily for 3 days constitutes a treatment cycle. To get the maximum benefit, the patient should repeat the treatment cycles up to 4 times until the wart tissue is completely gone.

Patients should avoid applying more than the prescribed volume. Avoid large volumes, greater than 0.25 mL per application, or 0.5 mL per day.

Patients with multiple warts, you may need more solution to cover all warts. So, take a fresh applicator and never reuse an applicator or dip a used applicator into the bottle to avoid contamination.

Avoid contact of this medicine on healthy skin. Before using Condyline solution, apply a protective layer of a neutral cream or Vaseline on the healthy skin surrounding warts.

Condyline should not be applied to open wounds. Avoid consuming alcoholic beverages for several hours after treatment.

Genital warts are infectious. To avoid the spread, the patient should be instructed to abstain from sexual intercourse. If this is not possible, a latex condom must be used until the infected partner is declared cured by the physician.

In case that the Condyline solution is accidentally spilled on healthy skin, wipe it off immediately and

Wash the skin with warm soapy water and then rinse thoroughly. Stop using this product if growth or

surrounding wart tissue is inflamed or irritated.

What is the Proper Dosage of Condyline?

Condyline is sold in a 5ml amber glass bottle with a plastic, child-resistant cap containing 3.5 mL of 0.5% podofilox. The package includes a sealed bag containing thirty cotto- tipped applicators.

The standard application of this medication is twice each day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Do this for 3 consecutive days for better results. Once treatment is finished, make sure to dispose of the used applicator in the trash can to avoid children from reaching it.  Wash your hands after treatment to avoid contact with other parts of the body such as eyes and nose. Do not apply the medicine more than the prescribed frequency and duration of application.

This treatment procedure could be repeated at one-week intervals with a four-day time lapse between treatments until a cure is obtained. This should not exceed a four-week treatment schedule. If excessive burning or irritation occurs, discontinue treatment and consult a physician
