Vaniqa Cream

Vaniqa cream is the medication especially made from Eflornithine. It is a popular topical drug that slows down hair growth in the face and around the chin of women.

What is Vaniqa Cream?

Vaniqa Cream is a type of cream that is made of eflornithine, which belongs to a group of medication classified as hair growth inhibitors. It is a popular option for women who want to slow down the hair growth found in their face and chin. When they apply the cream on the skin where the hair growth is more prominent, then the eflornithine will slowly reduce the unwanted facial hair found there. It should be noted that this cream does not permanently remove unwanted facial hair and it can’t be used for any other part in the body. Children under the age of 12 years old should not use this product.

Vaniqa is a brand name while the generic name is eflornithine topical.

How does Vaniqa Cream work?

Vaniqa Cream has ingredients that work against hair growth in the face or chin. The ingredients include eflornithine or hydrochloride monohydrate. Accordingly, they interfere with the chemicals in hair follicles, which are found directly under the skin. When cream is applied on a specific spot, hair growth is slowed down considerably because eflornithine targets the ODC enzyme in the hair follicles. ODC refers to Ornithine Decarboxylase Enzyme, which is in charge of creating Polyamines that are responsible for rapid hair growth. Eflornithine doesn’t completely remove these enzymes. Instead, they block out these processes. As a result, the rapid growth of hair is slowed down.

What is the history of Eflornithine?

The main ingredient in Vaniqa Cream, which targets hair growth, is called eflornithine. It mostly targets African trypanosomiasis, a type of sleeping sickness, and excessive hair growth for women. People can either have eflornithine injected into their system or apply it to certain parts of their body. Accordingly, this crucial ingredient was developed back in the 1970s but it was only used for medical reasons in 1990. It has also been hailed as one of the safest and most effective medicines in the industry, as highlighted on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines.

In the United States, you can get the injectable version of this medication from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, in other parts of the world, where the use of eflornithine is most needed, the WHO or World Health Organization provides it for free.

What should you know before using Vaniqa Cream?

There are certain precautions you need to know before taking medicine or apply cream on your body. For some, they might develop allergies or even skin rashes. Others could experience fevers or unwanted side-effects. People might expect instant results but this is not the case. Even if you don’t see any immediate effects, you should continue to use the cream.

Stopping hair growth is a gradual process. You might be frustrated at the slow results but soon, you’ll see improvement at the fourth up to eighth week of treatment. It may be slower for some individuals but that doesn’t mean that it should be discontinued. Once the treatment is discontinued, you can expect hair growth to return gradually, especially at the pretreatment levels.

When you get the Vaniqa Cream, you should check out the packaging. There will be a set of instructions for you to follow. Make sure to follow them as thoroughly and carefully as possible. You should also inform your doctor regarding any past or current medical issues. This also includes if you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant or currently breastfeeding.

What are the benefits of using Vaniqa Cream?

Some women can be conscious of their appearance. Despite facial hair being relatively normal for all human beings, some women want to display a hairless image. With Vaniqa Cream, this can be achieved slowly but surely. In reducing the hair growth on their face and chin, women can benefit from less prominent, less coarse and lighter hair on their faces. This can improve their self-confidence and their self-perception. It’s also a less painful and time-consuming process than plucking out all individual hair found on your face.

What are the side-effects of using Vaniqa Cream?

All medication and drugs have certain side-effects that comes with using it. When it comes to Vaniqa Cream, the eflornithine can cause unwanted side-effects. However, most of them are mild and will quickly pass away with enough time. The mild side-effects include the following:

How do you use Vaniqa Cream?

A list of instructions regarding Vaniqa Cream should be given to you before you use it. You should apply the cream exactly as you’ve been instructed to by the doctor. It also helps to read the directions that can be found on the prescription level. Make sure that you’re not using larger or smaller amounts of the cream or for longer than what is recommended.

You should not consume the cream by mouth as it strictly for the skin only. If you have any open wounds, scratches or sunburns on your skin, then don’t use the cream as they might worsen. It is also not recommended to apply it on chapped or irritated skin.

Accordingly, Vaniqa Cream is typically applied twice a day every single day. The regular interval between each application is set at least 8 hours apart. It should only be applied on the face or chin as it won’t work on other areas of the body.

When you first apply the cream, don’t immediately apply it on areas where it still has skin. Instead, you need to remove the existing hair first before the cream can work its magic. You can use tweezers, a razor or even scissors to cut remove them. Then wait at least five minutes before you apply a thin layer of cream on the affected areas. Make sure to rub it thoroughly.

Once the medicine has been applied, you need to wait for it to dry completely before you can put any cosmetics or sunscreen on the areas that have been treated. However, if you feel any sort of irritation on the treated areas, then you should reduce the amount that is usually applied.

It takes a long time for you to see the results. Expect it to happen after four to eight weeks. But if six months has already passed, then inform your doctor and stop using the medication.

Make sure that the Vaniqa Cream is stored at room temperature, far from heat and moisture. This medicine should not be kept in a cool area where it could freeze. It should also be kept far away from children and pets.
